Merahi's government primary school has been around for decades, though it wasn't always easy going — for years there weren't enough rooms, and students often had to move to schools outside the village after Class 4 or 5. Today it's a co-educational school teaching Classes 1 to 5 in Hindi, run by Bihar's Education Department, and it remains the first classroom most of the village's children ever sit in.
